Empowering Service Users
In partnership with ROCC Helen Brafield of Ethica Consulting was the project manager for a one year research and development project targeting hard to reach service users to find the most effective ways for consulting with them and involving them at the strategic level for the Supporting People Programme (at the request of the then Office of the Deputy Prime Minister). She then devised and put in place the resulting unique model of Service User Reference Groups for Hampshire, Portsmouth, and the Isle of Wight Supporting People teams.
- She also enabled the strategic development of a service user and carer group to help inform the new Social Work degree for the University of Portsmouth.
- In addition Helen has assisted in the development of service users and tenants’ involvement strategies for both large and small charities (Two Saints, and Reading Single Homeless Project).
- Helen Brafield is co-author of the book ‘Service User Involvement: Reaching the Hard to Reach in Supported Housing’ published by Jessica Kingsley in December 2007 available from Amazon.co.uk
- Helen is still actively working with organisations to help them train and develop service users and tenants of supported housing services to become volunteers, trainers, and eventually paid staff.
